BIMBERI YOUTH
JUSTICE CENTRE, ACT

Bimberi Youth Justice Centre, ACT

Project Overview

Bimberi is the new ACT Youth Justice Centre located on Morisset Road, Mitchell. That signalled a new direction for youth justice in the ACT.

The Centre was the first human rights compliant Youth Justice Centre in Australia and comprises state of
the art residential, education & training, recreation, administration and other support facilities enclosed by a secure perimeter. The centre replaced the existing Quamby Youth Detention Centre.

Bimberi attempts to create a 'normal' environment for the young people with separate zones for 'public' and 'private' activities. The access roads and car parking are provided outside the secure perimeter. The total site area including the buffer zone is 11.6 Ha.
