Hindmarsh putting it together for IKEA

Hindmarsh has been appointed to project manage the construction of Swedish furniture giant IKEA’s next Australian store, and its first in the ACT.

Hindmarsh anticipates construction of the new multi-million dollar store, to be located on a 7.2 hectare site in the Majura Parkway Estate, will commence in late 2014. The store is expected to open in late 2015.

ACT State Manager Construction David Colbertaldo said the project represents a significant boost for the local construction industry.

“Hindmarsh is proud to be involved with an international organisation of IKEA’s calibre. We will work closely with IKEA to deliver their first state of the art ACT store on time and on budget,” Mr Colbertaldo said.

Mr Colbertaldo said local consultants and sub-contractors will primarily be engaged.

The new single storey store will be a landmark in the area providing car parking for more than 800 vehicles. A total of around 4000 solar panels on the roof will generate up to 25 per cent of the store’s energy requirements.

Hindmarsh has operated in Canberra for more than three decades and has successfully delivered many high profile projects in the ACT across the commercial, education, residential and health sectors.
